I mixed representational and surreal/abstract elements in hope of giving this piece an otherworldly aura, hinting at the inherent mysticism within painting itself. The mirror effect of the gloves on top of the graphic background results in a juxtaposition between the real and unreal.The supergraphic, which is traditionally thought of as very flat and two dimensional, feels a bit more dynamic and alive due to the use of repeating color gradients and a glowing effect around the edges; The horizon-like shape and warm palette alludes to a sunset, symbolic of the longing that is interwoven into the experience of nostalgia. Overall, I wanted the piece to feel like a portal to a 70’s parallel universe while also being imbued with the magic qualities of painting.
